Blessed Marcel Callo   (1921-1945)
Marcel lived a normal, quiet life being active in church organizations such as Youth Christian Workers.
In 1943, he was conscripted by the Germans, with threats to his family if he refused.  Working in a munitions factory, he was arrested by the Gestapo for spreading Catholic ideas, and sent to the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria.
As a result of forced labor, abuse and beatings, Marcel died in March, 1945 from tuberculosis and dysentery.
Dying due to “hatred of his Christian faith,” he was beatified without the requirement of a miracle by Pope John Paul II in 1987.
